As a token of thanks and to pay tribute to all those who risked their lives for freedom during World War II, the City of Pilsen has prepared a series for the 65th anniversary of the city’s liberation by the US Army.

The author of the series is Mr Milan Jíša, the curator of the Patton Memorial Pilsen museum. Military historian Mr Karel Foud is the final editor of the text. The series is translated into English by Elizabeth Spacilova and David Fuchs.

On this website, from June 6, 2009 until May 8, 2010 you can follow the day-by-day progress of the US Army in its liberation of Europe in 1945. This is the journey of the soldiers from D-Day, when they landed in Normandy, right up until V-Day – victory and the liberation of the final city, Pilsen.

Each year it is the City of Pilsen’s honor to welcome US and Belgian veterans and their families to the liberation celebrations.
